Deficit Panel Urged To Find Bigger Reductions

Posted on 11/2/2011

Former Senator Alan Simpson (R-WY) and Erskine Bowles, who served as Chief of Staff to former President Clinton, yesterday urged the Congressional Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to devise a deficit reduction plan in the neighborhood of $4 trillion over 10 years. That figure mirrors Simpson and Bowles' own proposal as Co-Chairmen of the President's Commission on Deficit Reduction, rather than the $1.2 trillion the so-called Super Committee is mandated to find by last summer's debt ceiling agreement.

The Committee has until November 23 to offer its recommendations to Congress.
