FHFA Releases White Paper on Securitization Proposal

Posted on 10/22/2012

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) released a white paper discussing a proposed unified securitization platform for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and potentially their successors.

The paper is part of an effort announced by FHFA in their strategic plan to streamline and coordinate the activities of the government-sponsored enterprises to increase efficiencies and standardization.

"The white paper seeks to identify the core components of mortgage securitization that will be needed in the housing finance system going forward," the FHFA said. "Those core components are linked to two cornerstone operational features: a securitization platform to process payments and perform other functions that could be used by multiple issuers; and a contractual framework supporting the new infrastructure."
