FDIC Releases Exam and Rulemaking Review

Posted on 12/18/2012

The FDIC has released an examination and rulemaking review as part of the agency's yearlong community bank initiative that officials said will be "an ongoing effort." The Community Banking Study, the agency's national conference on community banking in February and six regional roundtables "helped to inform and guide the FDIC's comprehensive reviews of the examination and rulemaking process," the agency said.

The FDIC explained that as a result of the feedback it has taken actions to address the examination and rulemaking review findings in four areas: general examination issues, communications, regulations, and technical assistance. Some of those actions include an online tool that generates a pre-exam document and information request tailored to a bank's operations and business lines; new guidance on classification of violations for compliance examinations to focus attention on the areas of greatest concern; a regulatory compliance calendar on the agency's website; regional Director and Banker Colleges; and a symposium on fair-lending rules.
