This Week at the Legislature

The legislature is moving towards crossover recess.

As of Wednesday this week, the House had 180 bills left while the Senate had roughly 100 bills left for committee work and floor action. House Appropriations has worked late every day this week and plans a Saturday committee meeting. Leader Lefor has set the House schedule for next week, including a marathon floor session on Tuesday from 8-12 and 1-7 p.m. The goal is to officially adjourn for Crossover by Wednesday evening, elongating their recess break, and to resume the session on Wednesday, March 1.

In floor debates, gender in sporting bills were largely debated in the House, while the Senate addressed a myriad of election-related bills, energy bills relating to CO2 pipelines and eminent domain, and a workforce bill creating a statewide immigration office within the Department of Commerce, which passed by a strong vote of 39-5.
