In a surprise following the recent FOMC meeting, Governor Adriana Kugler announced her resignation. This gives President Trump the opportunity to put an ally on the Federal Reserve Board amid his feud with Chairman Powell.
Kugler, appointed by President Biden in 2023, has announced she will be returning to the public policy faculty at Georgetown University this fall—several months before the end of her term which was set to expire in early 2026.
“The Federal Reserve does important work to help foster a healthy economy and it has been a privilege to work towards that goal on behalf of all Americans for nearly two years,” she said in her resignation letter to the President.
